Tips to Increase Battery Life of your Mobile

Are you fed up with your cell phone’s battery life? Here are a few tips that can help you increase your phone’s battery life to some extent. The golden rule regarding battery life is that doing anything with your phone can reduce its life irrespective of it being messaging, browsing, etc. So always take care that, the more you use your phone, the more will be battery consumed and lesser will be its overall life. The following few tips can help you save your mobile’s battery life to some extent:

  • Keep all unnecessary tones off (keypad tones, SMS tones if you get too much SMS, etc).
  • Make sure your phone’s backlight is set to turn off automatically in 5-10 seconds. The default time set on most phones is about 20 seconds.
  • Reduce your screen brightness to what is actually required. The LCD screen on the phone consumes a lot of power, so keeping the brightness low should definitely increase your mobile’s battery life.
  • For incoming call alerts try to use either the ringtone or vibrate mode only but not both. Its good to leave the phone in vibration mode especially when the phone is close to you.
  • Dont let the battery become fully empty before you charge it again and dont overcharge your phone’s battery but let it charge 100%.
  • Don’t always keep your phone in poor or no network coverage areas. Its better to temporarily switch off your phone or let it go in airplane mode when there’s no network coverage
Those were some of  the basic tips to make optimal use of your phone’s battery and increase its life. You can expect another post in a few days’ time for few more tips incase you own a high-end mobile!

Install Windows 7 through USB on PC without DVD

System Requirements :
  • Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended
  • 50MB of free space on your hard drive
  • DVD-R drive or 4GB removable USB flash drive
First of all you need to Download Windows 7 onto your computer and have the ISO File ready. Next download the tool from Microsoft website here and install it on your computer. Once its installed you need to run the USB Tool and you will get the option to Choose ISO File from your computer or the Optical Drive.

Once you have selected the right ISO file based on the correct OS version ie 32bit or 64bit you will have to next proceed to the selection of media type. This means that you will be given with a option to either select a USB Device or DVD. In our case since we are going to install this OS on the Samsung N148 Plus Netbook we will be selecting the first option.

Next you will have to select the Removable Drive on which you would like to install this feature.
If there is not enough space on your USB Pen drive or if its not in the right format you would get a error for the same. Next you will have to Erase the USB Drive.
In the last and final step, the bootable USB device would be created following which the ISO files from the source would be copied to the destination.
That’s it, the bootable USB is now created which you can insert into your netbook or laptop and install the OS without any issues. You just need to ensure that you enter the BIOS and set the booting option to your USB Drive in order to boot from this external drive and proceed with the installation.

Hacking Facebook with Javascript Codes:

Because facebook relies so heavily on javascript, and because we can type javascript into the address bar, that means we can “poke” into the workings of facebook to do things that we wouldn’t normally be able to do. It’s not “hacking” exactly, but it employs the same sort of skills hackers use when looking into applications. The best part is that because it’s all using the same control codes (or “API”) that facebook uses, there’s no way for facebook to find out you’re doing it, so it’s totally safe! (I think…) Besides, we’re not going to be doing anything toododgy, just a few little tweaks ;)
Facebook Hack: Sending your friends offline

Here’s a funny one; if you’re chatting to a friend, get them to paste the following code into their facebook address bar:

javascript:buddyList.toggleTab();

It’ll make them go offline! Of course it’s not permanent, they can go back online by clicking the icon as normal, or by giving the same command again

Facebook Hack: Change facebook color

Check this out:

Isn’t that cool? Just use the following code to get your profile colour changed and impress your friends!

javascript:void(document.getElementById('headNavOut').style.backgroundColor="red");

Of course, you can use any colour you like; green, yellow,orange, black. It’s also fun to change it to “white” so you can’t see the text. Muahahaha. Again, only you can see it, but it does last until you log out or view certain special pages.

Facebook Hack: Get Chat History Even When Friends Aren’t Online

New: Video Tutorial for this hack.

Here’s a facebook hack that’s actually proven very useful to me in the past. One thing that I find annoying about facebook is that you can’t retrieve chat history if your buddy is offline… well now you can! :)
Click onto your friend’s profile page and copy their facebook ID from the address bar; i.e. the number after “id=”, highlighted in red below:

It might look slightly different,  perhaps like this: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=123132132213&ref=nf
But the important thing is to copy the number of the user, in our case 123132132213
Then while you’re still on facebook, type this into the address bar:

javascript:buddyList.itemOnClick(123132132213);

(with the correct ID of course)
And their chat window will pop up, saying “Jimbo is offline”. And if there’s any chat history, it will be displayed. How neat is that!
You can even open a chat window to yourself by pasting your own ID into the javascript, as seen to the right. You can use it for little notes to yourself, but remember that facebook chat history is cleared every few days, so don’t rely on it.

UPDATE1: A few people have had trouble pasting it in correctly, so here’s how it should look:

UPDATE2: Now that we have facebook usernames, it can be little harder to determine the ID of a profile, but it’s still possible – here’s one way: right click the “see all” friends link and choose “copy link location”, like so:

Or in Internet Explorer, you can choose “open link in new tab”. The resulting URL will look something like this:
http://www.facebook.com/friends/?id=YOUR_ID_HERE&view=everyone
That’s it!

Facebook Hack: Change your name (temporarily)

This one’s a very simple hack that you can apply to any website. As you saw in the screenshot above, I’d changed my facebook to display as “Facebook | Leet Hax0r”. You can do this by using the following javascript:

javascript:void(document.title="Facebook | Neo");

Sadly, your friends will only see your actual name, not the new one, but it can make for some amusement in a computer lab class or anywhere where you can show people face to face.

Facebook Hack: Close chat windows
If you’re chatting to a friend and want to close the window, sure you can just click the ‘x’ in the top corner, but isn’t it cooler to do it with javascript? Well no not really, but if you can trick your friend into typing the following code in, you can close the chat window of anyone they’re chatting to:

javascript:chatDisplay.tabs[123132132213].tabXOnClick();

That will close my chat with “123132132213″. You can send your friends that link with your own facebook ID in it, and it’ll close their chat window with you! And if you happen to know that ID:123 is chatting with ID:321, you can send the following to ID:123, and when they paste it in it’ll close their chat with 321!

javascript:chatDisplay.tabs[321].tabXOnClick();

Other Facebook Hacks
The hacks above are the most impressive, but there are a few other little things you can do which are mildly interesting:
Bring up notifications:

javascript:presence.toggleTab('chat_status_control','chat_status_control_tab');

Bring up online friends list:
javascript:buddyList.toggleTab();

Bring up application tab:
javascript:applicationDock.toggleTab();

Make text bold or underlined in facebook chat: use *stars* for bold text, and _underscores_ for underlined. There is no way to get italic text on facebook; see my comment here about facebook chat italics.

That’s all the hacks I’ve found (but I know there are more).
 In fact, it’s possible to get your friends to “like”, or “unlike” items, and I think it would be possible to get them to comment and more, but the complexity of the javascript makes it not worth doing, plus you have to get them to paste code into their address bar – there’s no way to do it without getting them to do that.

12 Tips to Maintain a Virus Free Computer

Is your computer infected with virus? Do you often get mysterious error messages? Well this is a common problem faced by almost all the computer users across the globe. There are many viruses and worms out there that could infect your computer. Some are harmless, but, they do have the capacity to do any number of nasty things, up to and including, erasing all data from your computer. However there are ways to keep viruses away from your PC.
Here are the 12 tips to maintain a virus free computer.

1. Email is one of the common ways by which your computer can catch a virus. So it is always recommended to stay away from SPAM. Open only those emails that has it’s origin from a trusted source such as those which comes from your contact list. If you are using your own private email host (other than gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc.) then it is highly recommended that you use a good anti-spam software. And finally NEVER click on any links in the emails that comes from untrusted sources.

2. USB thumb/pen drives is another common way by which viruses spread rapidly. So it is always a good habit to perform a virus scan before copying any data onto your computer. NEVER double-click the pen drive to open it. Instead right-click on it and select the option “open”. This is a safe way to open a pen drive.

3. Be careful about using MS Outlook. Outlook is more susceptible to worms than other e-mail programs, unless you have efficient Anti-Virus programs running. Use Pegasus or Thunderbird (by Mozilla), or a web-based program such as Hotmail or Yahoo (In Firefox).

4. As we all know, Internet is the main source of all the malicious programs including viruses, worms, trojans etc. In fact Internet contributes to virus infection by up to 80%. So here are the tips for safe surfing habits so that you can ward off virus infection up to the maximum extent.
  • Don’t click on pop-up windows that announce a sudden disaster in your city or announce that you’ve won an hourly prize. They are the ways to mislead Internet users and you should never trust them.
  • You can also use a pop-up blocker to automatically block those pop-ups.

5. Most of us use search engines like Google to find what we are looking for. It is quite obvious for a malicious website to get listed in the search results. So to avoid visiting those untrusted malicious websites, you can download and install the AVG LinkScanner which is a freeware. This tool can become very handy and will help you to stay away from malicious websites.

6. Install a good antivirus software and keep it updated. Also perform full system scan periodically. It is highly recommended that you turn on the automatic update feature. This is the most essential task to protect your PC from virues. If PC security is your first option then it is recommended that you go for a shareware antivirus software over the free ones. Most of the antivirus supports the Auto-Protect feature that provides realtime security for your PC. Make sure that this feature is turned on.

7. Install a good Antispyware program, that operates against Internet malware and spyware.

8. Never open any email attachments that come from untrusted sources. If it is a picture, text or sound file (these attachments end in the extensions .txt, .jpeg, .gif, .bmp, .tif, .mp3, .htm, .html, and .avi), you are probably safe, but still do a scan before opening.

9. Do not use disks that other people gave you, even from work. The disk could be infected with a virus. Of course, you can run a virus scan on it first to check it out.

10. Set up your Windows Update to automatically download patches and upgrades. This will allow your computer to automatically download any updates to both the operating system and Internet Explorer. These updates fix security holes in both pieces of software.

11. While you download files from untrusted websites/sources such as torrents, warez etc. make sure that you run a virus scan before executing them.

12. And finally it is recommended not to visit the websites that feature illegal/unwanted stuffs such as cra**s, serials, warez etc. since they contribute much in spreading of viruses and other malicious programs.

Download Books From Google In PDF Format for free

Google Book Search has thousands of books, magazines, and documents available for free for the public. You can read them online, but what if you want to read them offline? What if I want to read a book while traveling and there is no internet connectivity? Google Book Downloader (link seems to be down, grab it directly here) a handy tool which you can use to download books directly from Google and save them directly in PDF format.

The book code is the set of different characters after ‘id=’ and before ‘&’. In my case the Book code is ‘_kYBqLc5QoQC’. Now enter this book code in the tool and press Check.

Create Wi-Fi Hotspot,Use Laptop as Wireless Router with Windows 7

Virtual Router converts any Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 on a WiFi access point to Windows 7 hosted wireless network (virtual WiFi) technology. Virtual Router router is a free software that works with Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

MAKE UR LAPTOP A WIRELESS HOTSPOT FOR USING IT AS A WIRELESS CONNECTION:

Users can wirelessly share any Internet connection (WiFi, LAN, cable modem, dial, cellular, etc) with any Wi-Fi device (laptops, smart phones, iPod Touch, iPhone, Android phone, Zune, netbook, wireless printer, etc.) These devices connect to the virtual router as any other access point and the connection is fully secured with WPA2 (the most secure wireless encryption.)

Unlike other similar applications, Virtual Router is not only completely free, but do not bother with any ad. Also, since the Virtual Router is not advertising, does not track your web traffic, the way of other applications with advertising / can.

# Download Virtual Router : LINK
The wireless network or to create shared virtual router uses WPA2 encryption, and no way to disable the encryption. This is actually a feature of the wireless network hosted API built into Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 to ensure the best possible security.
You can give your "virtual" wireless network in any name you want, and also set the password to anything. Just make sure that the password is at least 8 characters.
